Dramatic flora

I’ve decided to take a bit of a different tack this week instead of posting more street or beach photos. I came up with the idea for this series after walking through all of the detritus from the last storm. Instead of simply photographing the gum nuts, seedpods and flowers where they lay, I decided to collect some and bring them back home to photograph under strongly directional lighting. But what do you do when you don’t have access to any studio gear? Improvise, of course! My ‘studio’ set up consisted of a CD wallet for the black background, a desk lamp as the main light and I used a CD as a reflector for some fill light. I don’t have a macro lens with me, so I had to crop these images quite severely from the original photos. Let me know how you think I went.

Ich habe mich dafür entschieden, diese Woche etwas neues auszuprobieren und keine Strassen- oder Strandfotos posten. Die Idee kam zu mir, während ich durch die Strassen nach dem letzten Umwetter ging. Statt einfache Fotos von den Gum Früchte, Samenkapseln und Blüten zu machen, habe ich alles gesammelt und nach Hause gebracht, um den Aufnahmen unter starkem ‘Studio’ Licht zu machen. Aber was macht man, wenn man keine Studioausrüstung hat? Man improvisiert! Der schwarze Hintergrund ist eine CD Hülle, das Hauptlicht ist eine Schreibtischlampe und ich habe ein CD als Reflektor benutzt. Ich habe leider keine Mikrolinse mit mir, deswegen musste ich viel von den Bildern wegschneiden. Was meint ihr? Findet ihr die Fotos interessant?
